Running with the Herd update – 5/10/12
Posted: 05/10/2012 Filed under: Bison, EPL, Random Thoughts
For yesterday’s Running with the Herd, I contacted the EIHA for comment regarding the error with the failure to allocate officials for the Bison’s game with Swindon. At the time of posting yesterday (6pm as is BOTW standard for a week day piece) there had been no response.
Banners On The Wall received following statement was received at 19:24 today (5th October 2012) from EIHA referee in chief, Mohammed Ashraff:
“An administration error resulted in non allocation of referees for the game between the Basingstoke Bison and Swindon Wildcats.
I would like to offer an unreserved apology to the Players, Coaches, Sponsors and Fans of both teams.
Rest assured we have taken steps to ensure that such a situation does not occur in the future.
In regard to using the four man system it is the EIHA’s aim to use as many local officials as possible for all levels of fixtures. Over 60% of our officials are under the age of eighteen and we need to expose them to games as a referee rather than simply officiate as a linesman. Throughout the season we have had young referees share the role of a referee with an another experienced referee across all age groups from U12’s to EPIHL. This provides the younger referees with an environment where they can make the journey from a linesman to referee and have a positive experience.
This is allocation takes places on the basis that it does not impact the clubs financially and hence why all games are not
allocated as a 4 man system.
The particular instance you reference of an NIHL game having one official is one of these situations that sometimes happenswhen you have to move officials across the country. The allocation was for three officials but due to circumstances beyond the control of the linesmen they were unable to reach the fixture. It is always our intention to have at least 3 officials to EIHA fixtures.”
We thank Mr Ashraff for his comment and taking the time to answer the queries provided in such detail. The proof for all of us will be in the pudding as they say.
